Stuart Scott Somerville, the son of artist and collector Charles Somerville was educated at home and studied under his father. Somerville was a painter of floral paintings in the Old Master manner, he also painted landscapes, figures and interiors.
Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1925 aged 17 and continued exhibiting there until 1961. He also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters; Royal Hibernian Academy; Royal Scottish Academy and the Fine Art Society and elsewhere. Somerville married in 1942 and had two sons and five daughters.
His works are signed 'Stuart Scott Somerville' joined and underlined or 'S. S. S.'.
