Nathan David - 'Fonteyn'

Nathan David (British, 1930-2017), a bronzed cast resin model of Margot Fonteyn in her role in the ballet Ondine (ca. 1975) on a white marble plinth, the base inscribed 'Fonteyn', 'Ondine' and signature.

In 1980 in her birthplace in Reigate, Surrey Dame Margot Fonteyn unveiled Nathan David's over-life-size bronze of herself, portrayed in her favourite role as Ondine the water sprite. There are editions of her portrait head at the Royal Opera House and Sadler’s Wells

David was a fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and a part-time lecturer in sculpture at the Sir John Cass Faculty of Arts (1975-90).
