More Info

Djagfar (Seigfried) Gizzatovich Bulat was a well known artist from the republic of Tartarstan in Russia. In 1916, at the age of 13, he was accepted into the renowned Kazan Art School, one of the oldest art schools in Russia, but was forced to terminate his studies due to financial difficulties.

After serving in the Red Army from 1920-23, Bulat returned to art school and studied under Pavel Benkov, one of the champions of Russian realistic art. Whilst at art school, Bulat also worked as a decorator in the studio of the Red Army Theatre in Kazan, and as an artist of The Communist Club and the House of Officers.

After coming back from the front lines of the Second World War, he began to teach art as well as do sketches for a number of magazines and publications of the time.

Bulat's work is widely exhibited and can be found in a number of state collections in Russia as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.
