Abbassy graduated from Canterbury College of Art in 1987 and after 10 years in London moved to New York in 1998.

Over the 30 year period, Abbassy's work has been acquired by public collections, including the British Museum, the British Government Art Collection, the Metropolitan Museum, the Burger Collection, Rubin Museum, NY, the Farjam Collection -Dubai, the Devi Foundation -India and numerous others.
