Vintage Charlet Chamonix Ice Axe
Ref: MI24868
Sold.
A fine quality ice pick with a pointed flat spike and a metal ferrule. The handle is made from ash with a slightly serrated steel pick on one end an adze on the other.
Frenchman, J Charlet, started making ice axes in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc around 1880 and this axe would have been hand forged and bears the 'chamois' label of early Charlet ice axes. The Charlet factory was handed down from father to son for many decades until it merged to become Charlet-Moser. In the late 1960s Charlet-Moser ice axes were still regarded as Europe's finest.
Considering its age, it is still in very good condition. This would be a great item to enhance your ski chalet decor or a fine gift for a mountain enthusiast. Sold as a collectable.
